Environmental Policy:
Chaleur Sawmill Associate's Woodlands Division oversees the harvesting of wood on public and private lands in New Brunswick. The goal of the company is to harvest wood, while respecting stringent environmental standards in order to preserve our forest in good health for our present and future generations. Chaleur Sawmill Associate's Woodlands Division also advocates the harvesting of wood in a conscientious manner trough competent and well informed employees.
In order to reach our environmental objectives, the following principles have been established to guide us in all activities related to forest operations under our management:«
Chaleur Sawmill Associate's Woodland Division hereby commits to:
- Conduct forestry operations in accordance with environmental rules and regulations, government guidelines and all other applicable legislation;
- Train our employees and contractors and increase their awareness regarding the protection of the environment so that it becomes a part of their daily routine;
- Implement, maintain and revise our Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure that our performances are in accordance with our objectives and targets;
- Continually improve our forest operations and prevent pollution;
- Respect and promote the value of the forest for the multiple roles that it plays in our society.
Chaleur Sawmill's Woodlands Division is proud to announce that its Environmental Management System has been registered to ISO 14001-96.
The ISO 14000 series of international environmental management system standards provides organizations around the world with guidance on how to manage the environmental aspects of their activities, products, and services more effectively. They were conceived to promote and support the protection of the environment as well as the prevention of pollution in accordance with the social economics needs.
Next Step: Chaleur Sawmill's Woodlands Division is presently working to obtain the SFI certification and expects to reach that goal by next fall. The SFI is a standard commitment toward sustainable forestry.
Our Environmental Management System has been registered by the Quality Management Institute (QMI), a division of the Canadian Standard Association. QMI is the most important registrar in North America.
